Schema Therapy (ST)
Schema Therapy can be helpful for changing life-long patterns in relationships, difficulties in regulating emotions, and with healing intense and painful core “schemas”. These schemas, that are often developed when we are very young, can lead to unhelpful ways of coping such as misusing drugs, alcohol, food, workaholism, self harm, anger, perfectionism and over-control, or submissive behaviour, being overly compliant and people pleasing.
Schema Therapy is an inherently compassionate therapy, within which the therapeutic relationship is key to change. In Schema Therapy we work together closely to understand how your current difficulties link to your past experiences, and work towards healing the pain of the past to help you build a healthier and happier self in the present.
